Zimbabwe
Today I am talking about Zimbabwe. For those of you who don't know exactly
where Zimbabwe is I prepared a map. Neighbouring countries are South Africa,
Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. Zimbabwe is located in southern Africa
between Zambezi and Limpopo river, and of roughly 10 000 000 people. Except
the so called Northern and southern Lowvelds, the country is formed by
a high plain at a level of 1000-1500 m above sea level. The highest mountain
is Mt Inyangani, with its peak at 2592m above sea level. The main watershed
stretched from SE to NW, thus separating the country into two almost equal
parts each contributing to the catchment areas of Zambezi and Limpopo,
the two major rivers in Zimbabwe. Those two are perennial rivers, whereas
the majority of rivers only run during rainy season. Until 1980 the country
was named Rhodesia. Chromium ore, asbestos, gold, nickel, copper, iron
ore, vanadium, lithium, tin, platinum group metals are natural resources.
The country is used !
for 7% arable land, 13% permanent pastures, 23% forest and woodland
and 57% other things. Zimbabwe has about 11, 163 160 inhabitants. The 390580sq
km area with the capital Harare has two popular harbours namely Binga and
Kariba. There are three main religions call 50% syncretic that are a part
Christian and another part indigenous beliefs 24% and 1% Muslim and others.
The official language is English but there are some others for example
Shana, sindebelu. The data code is ZI. People who lived there are called
Zimbabwean. Zimbabwe is subdivided in Ethnic groups: African and Asian.
The government type of this country is a parliamentary democracy and its
divided in 8 provincial states and 2 cities: Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland,
Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland
North, Matabeleland South and Midlands. Zimbabwe celebrates the Independence
Day on the 18th of April. The independence came 1980. The Export partners
are South Africa, UK, Germany, Japan, and US. Import partners are South
Africa, UK, US and Japan. The Zimbabwean dollar corresponds to 100 cents
and this is the currency in this land.
CLIMATE:
The tropical climate is moderated by altitude. The rainy season is
from November to March. There are four overlapping seasons:
The winter is from May to August when night temperatures can drop below
freezing point with little or no rainfall.
The second season is very warm and normally dry spring between August
and November.
Then it follows a rainy season (summer) between November and March.
At last with a transitional autumn between April and May.
Higher areas (the Highveld and the Eastern Highlands), have lover temperatures
both in the winter and in summer than in the winter and in summer than
the Middleveld an Lowveld areas in the south of the country and in the
Zambezi Basin. The Highveld enjoys a very equalable climate with maximum
temperatures hovering just below 30'C in summer. Rainfall is highest in
the Eastern Highlands and on the plateau, which receive about 1000 mm per
year, while annual rainfall in the Lawveld region is often below 400 mm
per annum.
