Internet – what’s that?First of all I want to tell you something general about the Internet. The Internet is a connection of thousands of computers all over the world. What these computers really do is exchanging information. It seems to be very chaotic because it is not controlled or organized by anybody. All of us can use this network.

The history of the Internet.The history of the Internet is different to what everybody thinks. It was a system planned by the US Army. In the 80´s, public access to the Internet was allowed and it started to grow very fast. For using the Internet you need a Personal Computer, a telephone-modem and a so-called “browser. Today you can exchange e-mails, every type of texts, photos, sounds or videos by the Internet. Or – and that is the context of my presentation – you can use it to improve your English.

How to learn English by help of the Internet.First of all you need a so-called search engine. The best and biggest are Yahoo and AltaVista. At the so-called Suchfibel you can find a list of more than 1700 German search engines.

- Magazines and Chatrooms.An other way to improve your English is, when you visit an English chatroom you can get in contact with thousands of native speakers all over the world.
